Victor A.Matveev, born December 11, 1941, Tayga, Krasnojarsk region (Russia).
V.A.Matveev - the outstanding physicist and organizer of scientific research-Director of Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor of Moscow State University.

V.A.Matveev is a brilliant representative of the famous scientific school created by Nicolai Bogolubov.
After graduation in 1964 from Saint - Petersburg State University, where he was studying theoretical physics at Vladimir Fock's Chair, he worked in the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna.

Since 1978 V.A.Matveev has been working at INR, from 1987 to 2014 as Director of the Institute, from 2014 - as Leading Researcher.

V.A.Matveev has made an important contribution into the relativistic quark model of hadrons, development of methods of quantum field theory for studying high - energy scattering and description of relativistic composite systems, investigation of the scale (automodel) properties of processes at high momentum transfer, formulation of the quark theory of nuclear forces and studies of the effects of quark degrees of freedom in nuclei, analysis of the vacuum structure in gauge theories and related phenomenon of strong non-conservation of the fermion quantum numbers at extreme conditions.

He has introduced the notions of hidden colour and so-called quark counting rules. As the Director of INR, V.A.Matveev has contributed strongly into the realization of the projects of the Baksan and Baikal Neutrino Observatories and the Moscow Meson Factory at Troitsk (MMF). Under his supervision the Institute has obtained a number of remarkable results in the area of neutrino physics, cosmic ray physics and neutrino astrophysics, meson rare decay search, etc. Among them, the results of the Baksan gallium - germanium telescope on Solar neutrinos (Russian - American experiment SAGE) deserve special mentioning. A new area of experimental research at INR has been opened after the recent successful physical start of the Troitsk spallation neutron source at the high intensity proton beam of MMF.

V.A.Matveev actively supports an integration of the Russian physics programs with the international ones. He is a member of the Particle and Neutrino Astrophysics and Gravitation International Committee of IUPAP and serves as the Chairperson of the Russia and Dubna Member States Collaboration Board in the CMS Project at LHC at CERN.

V.A.Matveev received a number of scientific awards, including several Russian Federation State prizes in Science and Technology.
