RYAZHSKAYA Olga Georgievna
(May 12, 1941 - October 10, 2021)

Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2000), Doctor in Physics and Mathematics (1987), Professor (1997).

She worked at the Institute since its foundation. Since 1985, she headed the Laboratory of Electronic Methods of Neutrino Detection of the Department of High Energy Leptons and Neutrino Astrophysics.

She was a well-known specialist in the field of experimental nuclear physics, physics of cosmic rays and elementary particles, neutrino astrophysics.

She developed and experimentally confirmed the model of generation of the nuclear active component of cosmic rays under the ground as a result of nuclear cascade process during inelastic interaction of muons with ground nuclei.

She was one of the authors of the development of a highly transparent liquid scintillator for large nuclear physics facilities. She headed and directly participated in the creation of unique large volume underground scintillation detectors: COLLAPS, Soledar; LSD, Mont Blanc and LVD, Gran Sasso, where a wide program of research of cosmic ray muons and search for neutrino radiation from the gravitational collapse of stars was carried out.

She supervised the work of the LVD collaboration from the Russian side. She made a great contribution to the development of international scientific cooperation between Russia and Italy. She trained a number of highly qualified specialists.

Her name was included in the INR RAS Book of Honor in 2000.

Awards: Order of the Badge of Honor (1978), Medal "Veteran of Labor" (1986), Medal "In Memory of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow" (1997), Certificate of Honor of the Presidium and Trade Union of Workers of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2000), Academician M.A. Markov Prize (2007), Honorary Worker of Science and High Technologies of the Russian Federation (2021).
