KUZMIN Vadim Alekseevich
(April 16, 1937 - September 17, 2015)

Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2000), Doctor in Physics and Mathematics (1987).

He worked at the Institute in the Department of Theoretical Physics since its foundation. He was a world-known theoretical physicist in the field of elementary particle physics, cosmology, cosmic ray physics, neutrino astrophysics.

He was the first to propose a model for the formation of baryonic asymmetry of the Universe in the CP non-invariant decays of heavy particles; he pointed out the possibility of neutron-antineutron oscillations and proposed an experiment to search for this phenomenon.

Kuzmin V.A. and G.T. Zatsepin predicted the effect of cutting off the spectrum of cosmic rays (the so called Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin effect).

He proposed a gallium-germanium method for detecting solar neutrinos; showed the possibility of a weak violation of the Pauli principle in quantum mechanics.

Together with co-authors he predicted the existence of fast transitions with non-conservation of the baryonic number in the early Universe at high temperatures.

He brought up many highly qualified scientists.

His name was included in the INR RAS Book of Honor in 2001.

Awards: Friedman Prize (1999), Order of the Badge of Honor, Academician M.A.Markov Prize (2003), I.Ya.Pomeranchuk International Prize (2006).
